One Sunday morning, I attended an Evangelization workshop. We were tasked to post #instaworthy photo showing who God is or how He touched our lives. And I honestly had a hard time deciding what photo to post, or how to caption it which is new to me being #socialmedia girl that I am. The task was supposed to be easy, but it lead me to a hardcore reflection on who God is and how He touched my life.
One Sunday morning, I attended an Evangelization Workshop at West Gorodo Hotel, Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City organized by Ang Lingkod ng Panginoon-Cebu for its committed members. The objective of the workshop was to prepare the members for the upcoming activities, wherein it is a goal to invite more single professionals to serving the Lord. The workshop consists of four talks, but Im not going to re-echo what I learned from the entire workshop. Haha.
I want to talk about one of the task given to us during the 1st talk (Social Media Evangelization). We were tasked to post #instaworthy photo showing who God is and how He touched our lives. And I honestly had a hard time deciding what photo to share and how to caption it, which is new to me being a #socialmedia girl. The task was supposed to be easy, but it lead me to a hardcore reflection on who really is God in my life and how has He touched my life. To answer the first question, since I developed or improved my relationship with our Lord, I have known Him personally as these three: (1) Prince of Peace; (2) My Comfort; (3) My Grandest Lover. Why do I consider Him as such? Below are the reasons why.
1. My Prince of Peace
“You are my Prince of Peace and I will live my life for you”
I still remember how my heart leaped with joy and gladness during the times I first heard of this song entitled Prince of Peace by Marc Imboden in one of the prayer meetings I attended with #LingkodCebu. This song made me realize the fact that indeed, God is a Prince of Peace. He granted me my most needed peace of mind in a way that I didn’t even notice until I heard this very song.
Like many other individuals out there, I used to be a worrier. I worry about almost evrything, especially about my finances back to when I was still studying. I worry about where to get money for my next day’s fare to school, money to cover expenses of my project, research, food for our family, and good clothing for school presentation. Even when I already started working, I still worry. I worry weather what Im currently doing is enough for me to win the life battles coming my way. I worry weather Im on the right tract or not. And worrying didn’t help at all. I started to get tired of it. Good thing the day came when I had developed a better relationship with our Lord. My reasons to worry didn’t leave me. I still have my bills to pay, future battles to encounter, dreams to hopefully achieve, and more, but now I worry no more. Why still worry? God is there to help me. And as He promised in John 14:27 saying: “Peace be with you! My peace I give to you; not as the world gives peace do I give it to you. Do not be troubled! Do not be afraid!” I was given peace like no other. He made me experience peace that He is. I didn’t instruct myself to stop worrying, God removed the worries out of my head and filled my thoughts with every good thing about Him. Its such a great relief to live without worrying at all. All credits to my Prince of Peace.
2. My Comfort
As I mentioned above, I was once a worrier. Being such, I had a troubled heart. A very sad one. I will even sleep my sadness away, letting my heart get broken while my tears were flowing. The good thing being sad is you get to be comforted by your family or friends. That is when you live with or near them. Back when I was still a student and used to live with my family at home, I have multiple friends to share my sadness with. Im blessed to have friends who were understanding and who were patient in listening to my dramas and giving me advice afterwards. Then the time came when I needed to leave home and move to live alone to work in a place new to me. A place where I have no friends nor relatives living nearby. At first, I still text with my friends, constantly updating them with my newly found freedom living indepently. Until I became busy with work that everytime I get home I sleep right away and do the same during my daysoff. I no more had time for texting or calling friends. It was sad. Not that I didn’t find new friends, I have many new friends and they are dear to me. There’s just a time when you have no one near you to talk about your sadness, to talk about your random dramas. Trust me, I had so many reasons to be sad last year, from new friends leaving, to a dear friend dying, to having no one near you whom your comfortabe enough to talk with. It was such a challenging year if you think of it, and during those times when my heart was broken and sad, I suddenly found comfort. Our good Lord comforted me when no one else can. Many times I feel His love touching my heart during prayer meetings, mass celebrations, my personal prayer time, and in my daily life. When I get to know Him better, I eventually know the happiness that He is and the comfort that He brings. And I want to personally share it to you! If you feel alone, if you feel like you have no one to turn to, no one understands and wills to listen to you, you are wrong! You have Him! He will always be there for you. No matter how sad or broken you are, He will comfort you, for you are Hid dear child. Call on Him! Go on!
3. My Grandest Lover
Being a woman that I am, I also dream of my own fairytale, or my own version of a lovestory like the ones written by Nicholas Sparks. Im a hopeless romantic so I tend to dream of the guy who will love me beautifully. A man who will pass as the next leading man to a fairytale movie or a protagonist in a best-selling romantic novel. Shallow. That was how shallow my understanding to the word ‘love’ was. I was looking for it the wrong way. Little did I learn that love is far greater than a man can offer. For love itself is the Lord, Our God. He is my Grandest Lover. He showed it many times before, and still shows it until now. Last year when I was in a process of moving on from a failed long-term relationship, Im glad that I developed my personal relationship with the Lord, my Grandest Lover. I started to recall the stories in the book of Genesis when He made the world and everything on it out of love, up to the story when He sacrificed His Son to save us. What a great love it is to still love and continue loving if the people you love doesn’t seem to be deserving. I am a sinner. Many times I have sinned, yet He never gave up on me. That’s how grand His love is. A love that is willing to sacrifice the most important belonging that there is to save a beloved. A love that truly never dies. A love that’s fire burning and gives life.
Moving on to the second question which is: “How did He touched my life?” I’d like to let you guys know that I’ve known Him since I was a kid. Growing up, the Lord was a known entity in my life. I remember my mother leading us to prayer before we doze off to sleep and that during my teens, I served Him as a lector in our parish. I know Him to be always there to watch, guide, and protect me. And just recently, I have known Him differently. He touched my life in a way that I am willing to serve Him more, in a way that I crave more of His love, I think of Him almost evry hour of my day, I do things now with cautiousness that I will glorify Him. He touched my life by responding to the interest I have of Him. That is how our God is, He does not ignore those who wants Him. He will come to you once you allow Him to. And once He touches your life, brace yourself, its just the start. Knoe that you will be overwhelmed with His Holy presence. Just allow Him to be the God that He is.
Now that I’ve already shared who God is in my life, its your turn to share who God is in your life. 😊 Also I’d like to know how He touched your life. Im excited to know your touching stories. So keep them coming!
A. “Kanamo maluoy ka unta nga kanimo nangalaba”
Its a yearly tradition for Cebu City to celebrate the day Christianity was introduced to them through Sr. Sto. Niño or the Child Jesus in a festivity called Sinulog. I am lucky enough to celebrate it twice in a row now since last year, 2016. I remember during my college years, I was dreaming of experiencing the fun and happiness of Sinulog, and when I finally experienced it the first time during Sinulog 2016, I was so happy! Yes, I didn’t catch all the fun because it was already afternoon when I went to the streets with my friends, but the sense of fulfilment was still there. We were happy to join with multitudes of people waiting around the streets of Cebu City to watch the parade composed of contestants from float and festival dance competition. Hearing the upbeat of the festival music, seeing actors, actresses, and dancers in colorful costumes made my eyes filled with awe. I truly felt the joy and excitement this celebration brings to people, I finally had a glimpse on why Sinulog is so called the festival of festivals in the Philippines.
It was a two-day celebration for us. I was with my brothers and sisters from a community of single professionals that I am in, called Ang Lingkod ng Panginoon (Cebu). The first day of our celebration was more on the spiritual side. The day started with drizzles dripping from above and occassionaly getting stronger keeping the people wet and cold. We were about to have an 8am meet up in a designated area just outside the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu. May I point out that our meet up on that day was planned days ahead and was to be followed promptly because of the fact that mobile signals were agreed to be turned off by network companies whole day, and it would really be impossible to find your foes once you’re left behind, because of the multitude of people flocking to the church to hear the mass. While waiting for all the members to arrive, we distributed the water bottles among ourselves. We had a total of 360 bottles. The plan was to get inside the basilica to give water bottles to churchgoers, hoping that people who may recieve our bottles would see Christ in us and also recieve spiritual blessings such as hope, and eventually grow deeper faith in Him. Our intention may sound as good as it is, but we were not exempted from all the hassle during that early Saturday morning. And that’s when I consider my adventure to celebrating Sinulog 2017 just started. Haha! What happened was, the security personnel didn’t allow us to get in because the morning mass just ended and the procession which will take hours to finish was about to start already. We were all stunned that we can’t get in, settled to move out of the queue of parishioners hoping to get in, and decided to stay on one side instead and wait for further notice. After about nearly an hour waiting, our group was finally allowed to get in. Praise be to God! We waited inside for the procession to start, and when everyone was settled, we then started our mission for the day. I, personally was hoping to evangelize someone through the act of giving water. I like the idea of giving water to some random person, and leaving him/her somewhat astounded, curious of who I am, and why do I do what I just did (haha). After we finished giving water, we then waited for the 6pm mass. It was again attended by thousands of people I believe. There was the flock who joined the procession, us, the people who stayed in the basilica for the novena, and the people who were not able to get in and managed to faithfully stay outside. The basilica itself was filled with faithfuls, so as the areas surrounding it outside. Amazing how big of a crowd the celebration was able to gather despite of some fear of terrorist attack. Indeed, no amount of fear will be stronger than faith.
The entire mass celebration was solemn, it was one of the day’s higlights for me. Churchgoers were still responsive despite their exhaustion due to the day’s activity and despite the bad weather. One lesson that struck me from the homily and I would like to share to you is what the priest said that, ‘we tend to be shy to reach out to person in authority, so we tend to be shy to call to God knowing that we are sinners. But then that is one reason why He humbled Himself as the Child Jesus. We shouldn’t be afraid to call to Him, that’s His purpose anyway, to hear us.’ It was a great reminder for me to always call on Him. What a relief to know there’s a God willing to hear me no matter how sinful I am.
Another highlight of the mass for me was when one of my colleagues tapped me and asked what I want her to pray for me (it was when the people were silent after recieving the Holy Sacrament). I was literally dumbfounded with her question that I couldn’t make up any answer in my mind. My heart melted to that simple act. After seconds of no response from me, my friend then concluded what I may want her to pray for me (career, which is true). Holding me on my left shoulder, she uttered her sincere prayers for our Lord to help me on that aspect of my life. Afterwards, I was instructed to do the same to the person in front of me. So I did. Its heart warming to see the shocked expression of every person I asked, I could still see their face in my mind. I wonder how they felt about it too, what’s running in their mind when they were asked the same question what do they want me to pray for them. Where they also touched the way I felt? Did they also feel their hopes suddenly boosting up? Did they also think what could the world be like if everyone will be sensitive to what the person next to them may need and pray for it? Those were actually my thoughts, see I was really touched by the simple act of my colleague praying for me. That’s one thing I like about this community Im currently in, many among the members are doing things that are inspiring. And they inspire even if they don’t intend to, it all happens naturally.
Now, I would like to share my favorite part of the day. The traditional Sinulog dance! It was my first time to witness the dance and I super enjoyed it! It was stunning to see the whole crowd waving their image of Sto. Niño and dancing to the tune of ‘Sinulog’ every time a prayer petition was mentioned. The dance lasted for about fifteen minutes, everyone’s energy doesn’t seem to be used up. Everyone was enjoying. Cebuano’s great love and faith for the Child Jesus was evident on that part alone. At first I was only listening to the music, and then I observed the crowd dancing, the next thing I knew, I was already joining the big crowd dance and shout out ‘Pit Senyor’! I didn’t expect that day will be as happy and enjoyable as it was. Im just so thankful I got to celebrate it that way. Seems like this year’s celebration of Sinulog will be hard to top. 🙂

Moving on to our 2nd day celebrating Sinulog. The day started early too. We were a bigger group, and the plan for the day was to simply have fun and enjoy! After gathering for breakfast, we then applied body paint on ourselves. After praying for a safe day, we braved the crowded streets of Cebu to witness the float parade and be in Fuente Circle area for lunch. Think it was an easy plan? Nah! There was no other means of transportation on that day other than walking. And it was a real challenge to be past a crowd wherein its nearly impossible to walk continuously. What we did was actually, to literally move inch by inch. 😂 It was fun though. 😊 And after a looong while, we finally reached our aimed place and headed for lunch. I was schocked to see my friends with more paints all over their face and clothes, that was part of the day I guess. And it truly added more fun to the celebration! Just before 5pm, our group then headed to Ayala Center Cebu to have dinner and wait for the said mall’s exquisite fireworks display by 9pm. What a good way to end the celebration.

Today, I, together with my brothers and sisters from the different branches of Ang Lingkod ng Panginoon in the Visayas region went to Guimaras Island for a fellowship event. Coming from a bit long travel from Iloilo, we enjoyed th3e white sand of the beach and the calm sea. Truly this island doesn’t disappoint. We did a lot of things, games (beach volley), photo ops, foods, swimming, swimming, and eating again, and playing again and so on. We did all those things while keeping in mind that we are brothers in sisters who are disciples of Christ. Brothers were serving the sisters, making sure to show respect and care for one another while the sisters were generous enough to allow the brothers to serve them. Truly I am enjoying in this 2nd day of the Regional Lingkod Training Conference 2016. Another highlight of this day was when we went to a monastery of monks, I dont know the exact name of the place but I’ll try to remember. We arrived on the said area around past 2pm, and surprisingly, it was already the sound of crickets who welcomed us. We went to the monastery, offered prayers and petitions, and asked for blessing from one of the monks. Honestly, Im looking forward to some sort of spiritual upgrade from this event. And Im being positive about it.
Did I already tell you that this is going to be something like an online diary for me? Not yet? Well, now you all know. 😊 Sharing with you another entry I found from my drafts last year. This could have been published during then, if only I pursued of making this blog sooner. Going back, here’s my March 14, 2016 entry.
I can’t sleep yet, might as well write something worthwile instead. So whats running in my mind right now are a lot of things. The blogsite I visited earlier (www.kimcamjones.com) the tweet of @PoemsPorn which says “Im not a girl. Im a storm covered with skin”, this glaring fire of love and inspiration Im feeling as i realize how blessed I am, my friend Raven and of course my dream of becoming a blogger.
Since I discovered some blogsites of celebriities I know and like, I tried to visit as much site as I could. Earlier I searched for the account of Ms. Kim Jones. Oh how fascinated I am with her photos, the shots are so precise (credits to her photographer). And she’s such a great model. Upon reading her articles, I liked her more, i got more inspired. Her work of modelling isn’t just done for her. I like the thought that she seems to do it for a cause, which is to help Filipino people. As it was stated in her blogsite, Ms Jones is supporting local products. High-end fashion attainable through the works of local people. And I believe she’s doing a graeat job in introducing local works to a large audience. I commend her for that.
MissJones inspired me even more to pursue for my long-time dream of being a blogger, she gave me addituonal reason to do it. And thats to help other people! What a very humbling reason for me to pursue what want.
